According to the 'Shibboleth of Fëanor', Maedhros was of "beautiful bodily form".
In addition, Maedhros was born with the rare red-brown hair of his mother's kin, thus the nickname, Russandol, which means 'Copper-top'.
When Fingon saved him from Thangorodrim, Maedhros lost his right hand.
Maedhros was also known as 'The Tall', from which we can safely refer that he was taller than is usual for an elf.
