Faramir becomes Steward to King Elessar

Description:

Faramir, son of Denethor II, 26th and last Ruling Steward of Gondor, relinquishes his office at the Coronation of King Elessar, and becomes Steward to the King instead:
Denethor... was followed by his second son Faramir, Lord of Emyn Arnen, Steward to King Elessar.

Faramir... succeeded by right on the death of his father, but in the same year surrendered rod and rule to the King Elessar, and so was the last Ruling Steward. He retained the title of Steward, and became Prince of the restored land of Ithilien....

Faramir met Aragorn in the midst of those there assembled, and he knelt, and said: 'The last Steward of Gondor begs leave to surrender his office.'
