Boromir's Sword

Type: Weapons

Description:

The personal weapon that Boromir brought with him to Rivendell and carried in the Quest of the Ring.
The Company took little gear of war, for their hope was in secrecy not in battle. Aragorn had Andúril but no other weapon.... Boromir had a long sword, in fashion like Andúril but of less lineage and he bore also a shield and his war-horn.

The Fellowship of the Ring, LoTR Book 2, Ch 3, The Ring Goes South

Boromir leaped forward and hewed at the [troll's] arm with all his might; but his sword rang, glanced aside, and fell from his shaken hand. The blade was notched. ...

But even as they retreated..., a huge orc-chieftain..., leaped into the chamber; ... he wielded a great spear. With a thrust of his huge hide shield he turned Boromir's sword and bore him backwards, throwing him to the ground.

The Fellowship of the Ring, LoTR Book 2, Ch 5, The Bridge of Khazad-dûm

A mile, maybe, from Parth Galen ... [Aragorn] found Boromir. ... pierced with many black-feathered arrows; his sword was still in his hand, but it was broken near the hilt; his horn cloven in two was at his side. Many Orcs lay slain, piled all about him and at his feet.

The Two Towers, LoTR Book 3, Ch 1, The Departure of Boromir

Now they laid Boromir in the middle of the boat that was to bear him away. ... The golden belt of Lórien gleamed about his waist. His helm they set beside him, and across his lap they laid the cloven horn and the hilts and shards of his sword; beneath his feet they put the swords of his enemies.

The Two Towers, LoTR Book 3, Ch 1, The Departure of Boromir

'Then I saw ... a boat floating on the water, glimmering grey, a small boat of a strange fashion with a high prow, and there was none to row or steer it. ...

'[It] was almost filled with clear water...; and lapped in the water a warrior lay asleep.

'A broken sword was on his knee. I saw many wounds on him. It was Boromir, my brother, dead. I knew his gear, his sword, his beloved face.'
