Lossarnach

Type: Kingdoms, Realms, Lands

Region: Gondor

Location: Just south of the eastern portion of the White Mountains; the Anduin is Lossarnach's eastern border. It is unclear where the western and southern edges are, as the River Erui borders Lebennin along at least part of its course.

Description: Bergil, son of Beregond, mentions that his grandsire lives in Lossarnach, and that "in Spring, the woods and fields are full of flowers". There are several mentions of vales in Lossarnach.
RotK, Book V, Ch 1, Minas Tirith

Lossarnach is the source for at least some of the herbs of healing, as indicated when Ioreth bemoans the interruption of deliveries:
"But I am sure I do not know where we shall find more; for all things are amiss in these dreadful days, what with fires and burnings, and the lads that run errands so few, and all the roads blocked. Why, it is days out of count since ever a carrier came in from Lossarnach to the market!"
When it is uncertain if there is athelas available Gandalf says ‘I will ride to Lossarnach with Ioreth behind me, and she shall take me to the woods, but not to her sisters.’
RotK, Book V, Ch 8, The Houses of Healing

From RotK we know about the Lord of Lossarnach, Forlong the Fat, and also about his men:
"Leading the line there came walking a big thick-limbed horse, and on it sat a man of wide shoulders and huge girth, but old and grey-bearded, yet mail-clad and black-helmed and bearing a long heavy spear. Behind him marched proudly a dusty line of men, well-armed and bearing great battle-axes; grim-faced they were, and shorter and somewhat swarthier than any men that Pippin had yet seen in Gondor."
RotK, Book V, Ch 1, Minas Tirith

King Thengel of Rohan wedded Morwen of Lossarnach:
She was known as Morwen of Lossarnach, for she dwelt there; but she did not belong to the people of that land. Her father had removed thither, for love of its flowering vales, from Belfalas...
