"...for Lúthien was the most beautiful of all the Children of Ulúvatar. Blue was her raiment as the unclouded heaven, but her eyes were grey as the starlit evening; her mantle was sewn with golden flowers, but her hair was dark as the shadows of twilight."

"...such was her glory and her loveliness; and in her face was a shining light."

Lúthien was a singer of great power.

"Keen, heart-piercing was her song as the song of the lark that rises from the gates of night and pours its voice among the dying stars ... and the song of Lúthien released the bonds of winter..."

"Then suddenly she eluded his [Morgoth's] sight, and out of the shadows began a song of such surpassing loveliness , and of such blinding power, that he listened perforce."

The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, XIX Of Beren and Lúthien

"But she chose mortality, and to die from the world, so that she might follow him [Beren]; and it is sung that they met again beyond the Sundering Seas, and after a brief time walking alive once more in the green woods, together they passed, long ago, beyond the confines of this world."

The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, Book One, Chapter XI - A Knife in the Dark
