Poros
Type: Rivers & Lakes
Region: Gondor
Location: Originating on the western slopes of the Ephel Dúath (Mountains of Shadow) ringing Mordor, it flows southwest to join the Anduin; the southernmost tributary of the Great River. From the inside cover map of Unfinished Tales, the Poros appears to be the border between South Ithilien and South Gondor.
Description: In 1944 of the third age, Eärnil fought and won against an army of Haradrim who crossed the Poros.
Later in the age, when the Haradrim occupied South Gondor in 2885, Gondor's Steward Túrin saw "much fighting along the Poros." With the aid of the Rohirrim Túrin eventually achieved victory at the Crossings of the Poros.

During the time of the Ring War this would be unfriendly territory, although presumably returned to Gondor during Elessar's reign.
