Withered Heath

Location: At the eastern portion of the Grey Mountains (Ered Mithrin) the range splits and the two spurs shelter a flat area between them. The Withered Heath is at the northern edge of the Wilderland; the nearest settled area is Erebor (The Lonely Mountain), located approximately 100 miles south of the Heath.
Description: The Withered Heath was "where the great dragons bred." Some specific dragons are mentioned in connection with the Heath: Scatha, "the great dragon of Ered Mithrin" who was slain by Fram son of Frumgar; the cold-drake who killed Dáin I, together with Frór his second son; and Smaug the Golden from The Hobbit.
