Harlond — Gondor

Type: Other Constructions

Region: Gondor

Meaning: South Haven

Location: The harbour of Minas Tirith, located at a bend in the Anduin, where the river and the Pelennor Wall most closely approach the City.

At its nearest point the [Pelennor] wall was little more than one league1 from the City, and that was south-eastward. There Anduin, going in a wide knee about the hills of Emyn Arnen in South Ithilien, bent sharply west, and the out-wall rose upon its very brink; and beneath it lay the quays and landings of the Harlond for craft that came upstream from the southern fiefs.

The Return of the King, LoTR Book 5, Ch 1, Minas Tirith

"It is forty leagues1 and two from Pelargir to the landings at the Harlond," [Aragorn] said.

The Return of the King, LoTR Book 5, Ch 9, The Last Debate

For Anduin, from the bend at the Harlond, so flowed that from the City men could look down it lengthwise for some leagues, and the far-sighted could see any ships that approached.
