A very interesting take on Faramir's fateful decision and its consequences. I always thought that Faramir had been given more latitude, as commander in Ithilien, to decide strangers' fates, but it could well be that the decree was absolute. I'm not sure whether it was the law of the land, or a recent ordered in response to the rising threat of Sauron and the proximity of Ithilien to the Ephel Duath and Mordor...
You convey Faramir's determination and increasing weariness very well.
