I thought this was a lovely idea. The cloaks really did seem to look after their wearers and this gives us the reason.
I also liked guessing which cloak was which as each chapter unfolded.

Ahhh ... of course, Artanis Galadriel would remember the unmade ninth cloak and mourn its lack.
