A Question of History
Azalais - 09 Feb 11 - 5:45 AM
Middle-earth and the many voices in which JRRT tells its tales do rather lend themselves to debates about "the nature of history". I don't think I've ever read that particular Letter, and if I did I skimmed over it, so I'd not ever put it together with what Frodo says in that chapter. So I enjoyed both the nature of the debate here, and the (very Tolkienish!) casting of it as a discussion between characters, all of whom were convincingly IC.

Lalia has always been a bit of an enigma, hasn't she? But I've always subscribed to the idea that her death was an accident involving a chair that was threatening to fall apart anyway due to Lalia's weight as much as faulty breaks and too high a threshold for the one pushing the chair, and that the rumors were the product of nasty imaginations anyway. But I love the debate here.
