The Sons of Thunder

Ch. 44: Chapter 44: Distant Shores

Ahhhh... Such a lucious chapter, a perfectly ambiguous title, by the way; full of tension, hope, despair, and twists of fate. The Gift of the Peredhel a curse indeed. A beautiful touch with the vision of Celebrian. I love -- of course-- your fabulously loving and compassionate Olorin... Really love his regretful longing at the end, I always thought that the "reward" of peace in Valinor would be oh so boring for such a vital spirit as Gandalf... And my instinct that a thread of hope remained after the previous chapter was precisely on target!

Now, will Elrohir answer the call, or continue toward that distant shore? Your readers want to know, and soon!

Ch. 44: Chapter 44: Distant Shores

Oh my goodness... somehow this is all very fitting for Easter... but I am glad that I left it until the third day rather than reading it in the sorrow of Good Friday.

Ah Elrohir - to make your Choice in such a way that you would never have to face your mother again... and so would leave her bereft.

Ch. 44: Chapter 44: Distant Shores

O.M.G.  Wait just a sec whilest I catch my breath before I can write coherently.

Okay ... Spoilers to follow ... I'd lost track of the new postings on this story and fell behind, so am just catching up this afternoon, but by Illuvatar, Ziggy!  this beats all.  My skin began to crawl in the last chapter and is still doing so.

The form of your poison takes is ingenious.  That it echos the most hideous form of torture in Mirkwood as well, makes it that much more abhorrent to Legolas and an equisitely refined crucible for Elrohir's redemption.  Though I will freely admit, as a reader, I would not have been unhappy even if he had gone through the door.  It was what I expected, which made the turning that much sweeter.  I would even have been able to accept the elf's following him if that had been the path you chose, because great love, as you've portrayed it throughout this story, knows no boundaries.

I'm very glad you didn't choose that path!  But I would have followed you - even unto death.  :-)

Loved the teeny bit of foreshadowing for Elladan's story and I must say again how cleverly you use the device of cutting scenes so the reader moves three steps forward in one character's POV, then takes a step back into another character's POV.  If not done right, that can get tiresome for the reader, but you have honed it to perfection.

I'm sooooooooo looking forward to the wrap party for this fic!  Can't wait to see this AU resolves itself!

Ch. 44: Chapter 44: Distant Shores

Hmm, that was torturous and agonizing and now we've got another cliff-hanger.. It is a lovely mix of forward and back, from tent to tent.

Poor Gimli is hanging there too, waiting with even less hope than us. Post soon, please?

Ch. 44: Chapter 44: Distant Shores

Finally got through Chapter 44 - have I told you lately that you are simply magnificant?  This is a simply amazing story and you have fleshed it out so very well.  I see that you say one or two more chapters.  After you have posted those and have declared this complete, I'm going to slap it on my NookColor and read it through without the time gaps.  It will be wondrous.
