The voices of the Dead in this chapter are chilling; litany is the perfect description for the hypnotic repetition of their murmurs.
Lovely image of Gimli sticking "like a burr" to Legolas - prickly and difficult, that's my Dwarf!
I'm also very struck by your descriptions of Aragorn having to control and hold in check the Shadow Host, which isn't something I'd ever given much thought to - almost akin to his struggles to control the palantir; the tension you build up until the moment Aragorn calls them to fight made the hairs rise on the back of my neck.
Oh, Powers, that moment when the gull cries and Legolas is nearly lost - this reader nearly passed out! Don't do that!
(And why do I get the sneaking feeling that the Peredhel who carries Legolas from the battlefield might not be the one Gimli thinks it is?)
