Oh, this drabble was beautiful, and very inspiring! Love the exploration of what Gandalf is, and how the "old man" is just a shape he takes, not his actual form. Your description of the world, and the difference between seeing it as a Maia and as a child of Arda, is also marvelous. :D

Sometimes I think the embodiment angle is the most interesting one to take with the wizards, particularly when they're newly embodied and probably still figuring themselves out.

It's probably no mere coincidence that Gandalf has such skill with fire, considering that he wears Narya...the Elven-ring with the red stone called the Ring of Fire. Making and controlling fire does not seem like a gift he would have possessed as a Maia, since Olorin was a servant of Nienna rather than Aule and most of the Maia concerned with fire (except for Arien) were balrogs.
