This is a gorgeous story, and a unique twist to the AU genre. First of all, your descriptions of the city and countryside are wonderfully vivid - it's very easy to sense John Tolkien's feeling of "coming home" to the woods, moving from the hustle and bustle of wartime Warwick to the peace and solitude his soul craves for recovery.
As for the stranger he encounters in those woods - here your incomparable descriptive skills shine one again. Clothing, boots, the timbre of his voice, the beauty of his hands, the astonishing revelation of his hair - that's got to be one of your most spellbinding character introductions! And a very memorable character as well.
The whole story is dreamlike, enchanting, but with a wistful plausibility that The Professor himself would applaud. Well done!

Yes, punctuation is a wonderful thing! (And my Beta will know the irony of that admission... ~_^)
Thanks very much for the comment, I'm delighted that you enjoyed the story.

Kortirion, this is quite simply the best story I have ever read about Tolkien himself! I love the characterisations and the descriptions of the forest.
So this is how it all began - and now I'm intrigued by the second book. Someone, somewhere, has more tales to tell ...

Ah, how delightful to think it might have taken place this way, and that indeed he might have seen a faithtful copy of the Red Book!
Other than that he went by Ron rather than John, this is so very possible a means to learn the history of Middle Earth!
And apparently a final descendant of Celeborn--and Legolas both, or so the white knife might indicate!
Lovely!

Goodness! My imagination feels as quickened as if I were eight years old again, and heaving the Lord of the Rings into my lap that first time! I recall now the near-hum of my intense fascination -which has been no less reading your wonderful account.
You have enriched me.
