Multi-layered, poignant and fascinating glimpse into a lost corner of Tolkien's world that I also wish we could see explored more often. Wonderful descriptions - even though we don't know the facts behind the mariner's journey (and "landing"), we get just enough detail to bring our sympathy into play, to understand his specific situation.
The ending leaves me thinking that there is always hope, but you should be looking for it in the right direction! Deliverance for him, not just from this fate, but maybe now also from his "rash and reckless" goal? I really enjoyed pondering his future beyond the end of this drabble, and if this experience turned into more substantial pursuits.
