Am glad this left you wanting to read more. This was written to fit into a gap of my other stories; the visit to the Fanes was mentioned in "Filled with Light as with Water," "The Choice of Healing," and "Reunion." The first is the brief description of Frodo to Sam of how he came to be as he'd be when Sam arrived; the second looks at the time between the Return and the death of Frodo and Sam on Tol Eressea and covers the events leading up to the visit to the Fanes; and the third is the story of Rosie's death, Sam's decision to sail, and his stay on the island, ending with his and Frodo's deaths, with a brief discussion of the wound on Frodo's neck.
This particular story was directly inspired by Fiondil's "Elf Interrupted: Glorfindel Redux," which is posted on Stories of Arda. He and I see things slightly differently, although we do overlap in many ways.
I've always loved the relationship between Bilbo and Frodo.

I think I shall enjoy this again and again. Thought-provoking.
I love your vision of the Lady. How sensible to have a steel hook and not a more esoteric material....
