>>I look not above but toward the horizon

I very much like this interpretation of Elrond's relationship with Maglor and Maedhros - and with his parents.  (Of course, I like it most because I agree with it!)  I do think it was Tolkien's intention to portray the fostering of Elrond and Elros as kindly and nurturing.  Interestingly enough, Elrond's story recalls Tolkien's own youth - and he was certainly a doting father himself.  We may be too modernist in our interpretation of Elrond's feelings about his parents, but it is realistic to imagine that a child would not understand, and as an adult, he might be more charitable, but his affections remain those of the child.

I especially like the shining star image, and the meaning it holds for Elrond in this story.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I've gotten the full spectrum of comments on it. I know that I write in a modernist mode, but I like to play with character development. In this case I more or less took off from Tolkien's line "Maglor took pity upon Elros and Elrond, and he cherished them, and love grew after between them."
