Poor Nelyo. Sometime a parent can be cruel and thoughtless without realizing it. It's at times like these that siblings are so important.
Now that my curiosity has been whetted, I'll have to read Another Man's Cage.
I loved your description of fingers looking like sausages. I also can relate to problem hair. I never know from one day to the next what my will look like. It's very soft.

>>"Start in the dirt," Grandfather is fond of saying, "then grow to the stars." Atar did not have this beginning: always has he been revered and honored as a prodigy, the greatest of our people, placed among the stars from the first years of his life.
And that's the trouble with Feanor - I've always seen the overindulged child in him (most particularly evident when Finwe more or less takes his side when he threatens his brother).
As for Maedhros, he wants his independence and knows how different he is from his father, but he doesn't value the gifts uniquely his. If he is not the second Curufinwe, then who is he, and will he ever see this for the blessing rather than curse that it is?
