Ah, this was excellent work. I love the bitterness about it all, something that I sensed from the hints that Tolkien gave, but something rarely explored in fanfiction. I was not quite sure about the canon of chapter 2...Boromir says in the Council of Elrond that his father was "loth" to give him leave, yet Denethor gives him blessing quickly in this fic. Perhaps merely a different interpretation, but I never imagined Denethor being so quick to send Boromir away.
But this chapter was exactly what I think it should be! I know that most authors prefer Faramir to be more worshipping of Boromir, but Tolkien said and showed that Faramir saw Boromir's faults, and I think in this circumstance his bitterness is well-merited.
