Lovely blend of humour with touching moments. I rather suspected Legolas' reason, but it's still moving when it comes, and genuine. Aule is wonderfully idiosyncratic, just as one would expect (or not expect) from a demi-god.

I have read this several times before and each time I laugh at the idea of Aulë forgetting his hair is on fire! There is too, that immense sense of loss that Legolas is trying to fill, and that makes my heart squeeze a bit too. There is this wonderful disrespect in your writing that is so cheekily irreverent but at the same time, poignant and beautiful.
