Ch. 1: A Matter of Definition

Greetings!  I had not visited HASA for some time, and decided to check out the Valentine Challemge entries.  I followed yours to this one.  This is delightful!  We have here two strong men examining hoow they are different, and alike.  Tolkien gives Eowyn the observation that even though Faramir appearred to be quiet and gentle, she could tell he was as strong and brave as any of the warriors she was raised around.  You have very nicely summarized here what makes them and their cultures "tick".

Ch. 1: A Matter of Definition

Thank you, Demeter d! I am a very strong Faramir fan, but though I love his gentleness and thoughtfulness, there's more to the man than that, just as there's more to Eomer than bloodlust. I love how Tolkien's characters are so much more than stereotypes, and this story gave me a chance to examine them more closely. I am glad you enjoyed it.
