Dwim, that was great!
Dare I confess that it was not until the author's notes that I figured out who "Li" was? I kept trying to make him into someone, um, older...

And perhaps blonder? (Following movieverse.) ;-)
That's great, actually, I was struggling to inject *some* mystery into it, while not being totally, obviously coy about descriptions. So if Li's identity wasn't fully realized until the end, I'm quite happy.
Thanks for your comments,

Oh, brilliant. This is an extraordinary crossing of time. And it fits so well! Now I'm almost wondering if I've seen people of the Elder Days myself now and again... those strange, chance meetings, glimpses of people you don't quite know what to make of.
Thank you for a rare gem of a tale!

You never know. Human beings have undoubtedly gotten smaller, so perhaps the difference between a dwarf and a person isn't nearly as great as it once was.
;-)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the prompt. It was a fun challenge.
