Ch. 1: Lie Down Late
This was a really nice slice of life, and I think the inn-keeper's realization at the end were pretty keen of him. But his insight is the truth I think. I especially liked the voice you gave your innkeeper; he reminds me of Barliman, who Gandalf tells us could see through a brick wall in time. He's a little less rough around the edges than Old Butterbur, but there's still that common-sense wisdom. I enjoyed this.
