Hi there!
So this is what you've been up to! Great little story! I laughed out loud at this:
"When Galadriel proposed great works and pavement for Imladris, Elrond had simply smiled and thanked her, and, for all her plans, nothing had been done. She had cajoled in public and sniped in private, until there was no bearing it."
And this:
"If she has razed all the trees and paved the land in marble, I do not wish to hear it."
Frankly, I think your tale makes a lot of sense out of the garble of Celeborn and Galadriel. And the idea of a marital spat lasting, what, nearly 200 years? Only among the Elves. *chuckle*

I loved it! Hilarious. You can call it AU, canon, creative use of canon, whatever you want--it certainly accurately captures aspects of Celeborn and Galadriel that could cause almost irreconcilable differences. And, it is perfect that Galadriel, one smart lady, would realize she couldn't let a guy like that slip away and would figure out how to get him back. Her little "Mallorn" project certainly must have been satisfying on a purely personal level--not to mention the Ages of good press.

I really enjoyed this interpretation of the origins of Lorien. I don't care if it's considered AU, canon or "canon plus," it has great characterization and a believable premise behind it (even though my personal vision is a bit different). I loved the interaction between Thranduil and Celeborn, and I bought in completely to the rift between Celeborn and Galadriel. I also loved that it was she who made the first step to reconciliation, although Celeborn plainly missed her terribly. They are very different in some ways, and you show clearly how Lorien made an excellent compromise.
A personal favorite line, among many: "If she has razed all the trees and paved the land in marble, I do not wish to hear it."

One of the nice things about fanfic is that we can all have different intrepretations - and like them all!

So, this is how it was (or might well have been). The beauty of Laurelindorenan came from a mixture of Galadriel's desire to build a great city AND Celeborn's love of trees having come to this compromise? Wonderful!
Well told, and with wonderful images.
