I don't think I've read this one before. I loved Boromir's enthusiasm about the legendary Captain Thorongil, as he demonstrated the Captain's sword-moves to Aragorn.

The ending is sad but well-told.

Thanks for your comment and recommendation on "The Summons." One of the intriguing gaps Tolkien leaves us is how the characters who would have heard of, or known, the famous Thorongil would react when recognizing him in Aragorn. This story started as one suggestion for how it could have happened between Aragorn and Boromir.

Congratulations on making the cut! This short piece gets to the bottom of the purpose and the humanity in Aragorn with a precsion that is rare, while giving honor to Boromir and giving authenticity (evokes all the failures and triumphs) to the old battle of good against evil and hope. Tolkien hits it, but fanfics almost never do.
