Love the subtle underpinnings of this bittersweet vignette. This pithy observation, for instance:
'It was odd how the Ranger always had an enticing air of the road about him, even when dressed for home.'
says so much - about Aragorn, about Bilbo, even about their world. In the same way, so much characterization happens in Bilbo's random musings on this lonely rainy day.
