Hands of the King

She was amazed that her cough had not returned, not even the usual morning cough that had been a part of her life as long as she could remember.
Side effect of the athelas? Earlier I had been wondering if Aragorn could possibly do anything for her ailment, even for a short time.
Great chapter.

Hi Katie,
Side effect of the athelas? Earlier I had been wondering if Aragorn could possibly do anything for her ailment, even for a short time.
Athelas, but more Thorongil. The hands of the king are at work. His powers are not complete or completely reliable, as will come out in later chapters, but they are there. It begins to answer Finduilas's otherwise rhetorical question "What care I for the hands of a king?' when she and Denethor argue before their betrothal.
Glad you like the story!

Hi Lyllyn,
I'd still like to understand the mariner better, but I'll hope that comes in a future chapter.
I don't explain the mariner in much greater detail as his role is murky, even to me. Finduilas & Denethor will speculate about what he's up to. A few things will occur close to the Umbar invasion that hint at larger designs, and he has threatened to make a final appearance.
Glad you're enjoying the story!
