Allusions to a previous discussion that Thorongil and wee Boromir had on the subject of broken swords are from another tale called 'The Best Sword Ever' (http://www.henneth-annun.net/stories/chapter_view.cfm?stid=5478&spordinal=1). While this current story recalls memories of that chat, the two tales diverge and differ in what happens afterwards when Thorongil and Boromir meet once again after many years.
This story also contains passages from Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring, in particular from the chapter "The Council of Elrond"; in some cases these passages are quoted, in other cases they are paraphrased.
