For years after the certainty of E?rnur's death settles in his bones, Mardil waits for the claim to come from the forgotten North; but, the days fade without tidings, and the weight of his role becomes less and less with them.

Long past are the days of wondering why E?rnur would not listen, why Aranarth's children claimed not their own, why the ruling line had become diluted, why the D?nedain had been so foolish...

At the end, one truth remains: As he cannot take more than is his, he cannot do less--his debt to his N?men?rean fathers. And to Gondor.
