5. Hale Halbarad - by Dean Maia of Este

Hale Halbarad

Gilraen looked at the boy struggling to carry the basket of food into the room. "Who are you child? You are small for such duty."

"Halbarad son of Holbarad my Lady. I am the only one in the house who has not the coughing fever. We do not wish to give it to your son."

"Well it is. Please watch him for me while I prepare this food."

"Yes my Lady."

When she returned Halbarad was staring into the child's eyes and the child was staring back.

"May I know his name, My Lady?"

Aragorn son of Aarathon. Why do you wish it?"

"So that I may pledge to him."

Amused, Gilraen asked, "because he is to be your Lord?'

"No, because he is special."
