2. His Father's Son

Climbing over the hill’s crest, Faramir admired the two women sitting in the grass sloping down from the house’s terrace. Black hair mingled with gold as Arwen leaned to whisper into her companion's ear, eliciting a low laugh from Éowyn.

Aragorn drew up alongside the younger man and said, "Look behind them on the steps."

In a soft, expressive voice, Elboron read from the heavy book the boys held between them on their knees.

"He reads unusually well for one so young," Aragorn said.

"Do you think so?" Faramir asked, coloring with pleasure.

"Well, perhaps not for his father's son."
