2. Author's Notes, or, The Revelation
Ah, my friends. I assume you read this because you have not guessed what Celeborn was called by those foolish mortals.
They called him Aphrodite, goddess of love and lust. Apparently, his long, silvery hair was long enough to mask the presence (or absence) of certain organs, as pointed out by Gandalf's Apprentice. Or perhaps it was just the sea mist and hopeful imaginings on the mortals' part.
The twins are thought of as Castor and Pollux (better known as the Gemini Twins), and the "yellow sheepskin", of course refers to the Golden Fleece. Castor and Pollux accompanied Jason on the Argos on the (perhaps not so) merry quest. Many thanks to Gwynnyd, who first offered me this idea. What exactly they were doing there is not known to me; perhaps one of you might write about it?
And very obviously, poor poor Haldir was mistaken for the virginal Artemis, goddess of the hunt. Which might explain why those who desired her usually came to a very sorry end.
