We wuz only 'avin' a bit o' fun. A body needs more'n meat and bread, and those villagers gave right good sport.
Why, you'd think we'd insulted their own dear ol' mum, the way they carried on. Them glitterin' grey eyes borin' into us like maggots, an' them terrible long swords cuttin' and slashin'.
An' they wuzn't 'appy just chasin' us off, oh, no, not them, not by a long chalk. Followed us, followed us for miles, right down to that there river, an' drove us in. An' the last thing I r'members afore I drowned was their 'orrible smiles….
