3. Dwarven Tribute - by Aeneid

Elboron squinted. When they said the dwarf was going to sing, he had thought, Valar help us all. And then he had schooled his face into a polite, expressionless mask – watching as the dwarf lumbered up to the front of the room…

When the song ended, and the last wavering notes of Gimli’s husky timbre dissolved against the stones, Elboron found himself leaning forward on his elbows, chewing his lip to hide the wavering of his chin. His father’s eyes were red.

“Thank you, my friend,” Father said. “You’ve given my brother a beautiful tribute.”

Gimli gave a bashful snort.
