7. Faramir and Elrond's Terza Rima Sonnets

Faramir

Look closely and please truthfully tell me,
Though I'm the Raven, I am Faramir,
In my eyes, tell me what do you see?

Steward's son? Brother of Boromir?
Do you see I have a poor tortured soul
As I fight 'gainst evil on the frontier?

Am I still under my father's control
Now I am the husband of Eowyn?
You can see I've had many a role.

Now Ithilien's Prince, once Captain,
It is my place as father of three
That's most dear, as is Steward to the king.

Look closely once more and truly tell me
In my eyes, pray what do you see?

Elrond

Look closely and please truthfully tell me,
Though I am known as Elrond Half-Elven,
In my eyes, tell me what do you see?

I'm a father of twins and of Arwen;
Foster-father to Gondor's future king;
Protector of elves, hobbits and men;

Keeper of Vilya, the sapphire ring.
I once had parents and a brother
Now he's dead I ask: what did it mean?

I once fought in wars - as a warrior -
But no longer with a sword do I aid thee
Lord of Rivendell, I'm now a healer.

Look closely once more and truly tell me
In my eyes, pray what do you see?
