1. In Your Arms
Nameless terrors lurk in the shadows.
Creatures dark and horrible hunt me in the night.
Their ghastly shrieking rends the air and my heart quakes.
Why was I chosen?
Why must I bear this burden?
My life used to be happy.
My life used to be safe.
Now nothing is certain.
Birds and beasts carry foul news.
Danger lives everywhere.
Yet now in your arms
For the first time in so long, I feel secure.
You offered your sword in my defense
You swore to protect me by your life or death
And you have done so.
You have proven your worth and your devotion
In the heat of battle
And here with me in your arms.
Here, enveloped in your protective embrace
I can almost imagine I am back at the Shire.
Wide, open fields billowing in the breeze
The merry sound of a bird singing at dawn’s first light.
In your arms, I am not a ring bearer and you are not a king’s heir
I am simply a hobbit and you are simply a man.
The cloud lifts and a ray of light is allowed to filter through.
For a moment I can forget our daily troubles
And peace is restored in my heart.
