I've always been 'torn' as to whether it was wise for the Noldorin Exiles to return to Aman at all, and this story vividly illustrates why it might not have been. G is quite lucky, in a way, to have such good friends! -- (much as E was; his 'happy ending', as related in 'Expecting Nothing', is touching and beautiful).
Turgon might not have been so lucky, and I sympathize with him (though not with G's wife and children). Artalinde as you write it might well have been the best of imperfect options for those who were not 'torn' :)
I'm very intrigued by this story and hope there will be a second chapter. For example, what of G's parents? One hopes that they, at least, will be more welcoming..
