Marta,
I really enjoyed this... Thorongil's musings seem completely appropriate for someone in his position as (unacknowledged) heir to the throne of Gondor.... And, knowing what we do of his integrity and generosity, the regret about the misleading song that praises him above Denethor is natural. And the song fits in nicely with what Faramir says about Gondor valuing martial skills above all.
I loved the juicy bits of Tolkien canon that you tucked into this vignette... and I squee'ed in surprise when you quoted my favorite Jane Austen novel! But the obscure (to me) Biblical reference went right past me, so I appreciated the Author's Notes.... Of course, anyone who knows me would have guessed that! LOL!
Nice job, Marta!

What a clever satire! Ever-humble, Aragorn covets not cheers or admiration - only the fairest maiden in Middle-earth and the throne of "his" kingdom! And, in an infant, he sees Castamir! No wonder people found the resemblance between Aragorn and Denethor so striking :)
