General Comment

I found these 3 chapters to move in sync with the way Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Ring. It gave a bitter-sweet look into what could have happened after the Ending of LOTR. As i read tear flowed freely down my face and I had a deep ache in my heart as if i was the one losing the friends. It ached even more as Gimli and Legolas talk of their own parting of ways and I cried even harder. At the end my heart smiled and i was at peace.

Awesome story!! A true inspiration from above. A divine gift. A complement and extention of Tolkiens Lord of the Ring!

I look forward to reading more of your works!!!

General Comment

I know it's been years since this was published, but I only just found a copy on a site where I can actually leave a comment about it. So this is long overdue.

Out of all the LOTR fanfics I've read (and there have been many) only two or three have ever managed to come close to Tolkien's original style and depth. The Last Grey Ship was by far the best-written of these.

I thought you captured the characters and the relationships between them perfectly, the descriptions were some of the most vivid I've ever read in a fanfic, and Tolkien himself could have written the dialogue. And the last three paragraphs especially had such beautiful imagery that, almost alone among anything I've read, they not only managed to move me almost to tears the first time I read the story, but still do every time I read it.

In short, this story was amazing, and I'd like to thank you for writing it. You definitely deserved all those awards you won for it.

Playlists Featuring the Story

Dwim's Legolas-Gimli playlist - 9 stories - Owner: Dwimordene
Legolas and Gimli. I'm rather hard to please in this category, mostly because of my Legolas antipathy. That's right, I don't get the lusting, I don't even get (half the time) the fascination. I've gone from indifference to "I just don't much like the Elf at all."

So when I find a Legolas-Gimli fic that makes me squeal with joy, it's a rare and good thing, and so I thought I'd share my joy and also categorize it for easy retrieval.

So here follow my favorites. It's a short list right now, and will likely grow slowly.
Included because: Probably one of the best fics dealing with the decision of Legolas and Gimli to sail for Valinor in terms of emotional impact. Their grief is well-portrayed.
Inspiring Stories - 20 stories - Owner: Elena Tiriel
Elena Tiriel's favorite Tolkien fanfic stories at HASA; a very personal and eclectic list of works that have touched me in some way. See Inspiring Drabbles for a similar list of favorite drabbles.
Included because: A hauntingly bittersweet view of the decision by two dear old friends to leave Middle-earth.
