Location: A foothill of the White Mountains in western Anórien, holding the sixth of the seven beacons of Gondor.
Description:
'The beacons of Gondor are alight, calling for aid.... See, there is the fire on Amon Dîn, and flame on Eilenach; and there they go speeding west: Nardol, Erelas, Min-Rimmon, Calenhad, and the Halifirien on the borders of Rohan.'

Etymology
calen (galen) the usual Sindarin word for 'green', in Ard-galen, Tol Galen, Calenardhon; also in Parth Galen ('Green Sward') beside Anduin and Pinnath Gelin ('Green Ridges') in Gondor.
The Silmarillion, Appendix: Elements in Quenya and Sindarin Names
The name probably meant 'green space', with reference to the flat turf-covered 'crown' of the hill: had being derived, with the usual mutation in combinations, from sad 'place, spot'.
