Son of Harad: 1. Chorus I (Harad)

Harad! O Harad!
Land of spice and sand and heavy sun
fierce land, unforgiving land
dry cracked desert land.
Glory to Harad!

Harad! O Harad!
Men warlike and women true
cool mûmakil shade
thick air buzzing full.
Honor to Harad!

Harad! O Harad!
Rising falling dunes of sand
tree-juice dripping into forceful tea
initiation to the young soldiers.
Fight for Harad!

(Why so long, why so long?
Twenty years and Boromir is gone.
Forgotten him, grieved for him,
but he is gone, gone, gone
never returning, lost.
Where did he go?)

To War! To War!

Haradrim rich saunter on mûmakil backs
jewelry dangling gold
thick, black hair like the soil that they do not have
deep brown-black eyes, pits that absorb light
and dazzling teeth
glinting smiles!

Haradrim poor
brittle boned, swollen stomachs
the ribs can be counted
one, two, three, six, eight…
washing in the salty sea
preparing for war.

Harad! O Harad!
Fight for the jeweled land!

And among the poor
a woman dies from starvation-disease
leaving a son, her only son,
dry, young, fierce,
this son with muscles stringy strong
and eyes not dark but light
(which bring him Great Shame)
this son is brave, loved, angry.

His name: Qudamah!
Remember his name!

The drums beat
cymbals clash
mûmakil roar, ivory tusks spread wide
the desert shakes
as Haradrim armies move north
and the poor boy Qudamah joins them.

Harad! O Harad!
