After entirely too much time spent reading well-written, dark, angsty stories, this plot bunny unleashed its fangs upon me and will not let go.

Stories that end happily are quite common. However, what if good did not triumph over evil? What if Sauron had regained the One Ring, or Morgoth had not been defeated in the War of Wrath?

 

If Sauron had the ring? Oh, and so nearly did it happen. I cannot even imagine the outcome! All our friends dead (save Aragorn who would be taken before Suaron who would take revenge).

This would be SO dark. Shudder.
