1 As first published this read: '100 Elrond weds Celebrían of Lórien.' In the second edition (1965) it was emended to: '100 Elrond weds daughter of Celeborn.' In the Allen & Unwin second edition (1966) Tolkien further emended the date '100' to '109'. The present reading entered only in the eighth (1974) or ninth (1978) printings of the Allen & Unwin second edition.
