Quickies Qtr. 2 2005

Challenge Details

Quickie rules:

--The story should be at least one type-written page long, but not more than 3 type-written pages. Definition of page - 1" margin all the way around, Times 12 pt. font., standard size paper.
--There should be one viewpoint or one character as the main focus.
--It should be one continuous scene.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to pick one of the below prompts, and write a story within the limits here described.
Eowyn, middle-aged, judging in a conflict between farmers and/or merchants in Ithilien perhaps about a horse trade or a boundary conflict. Describe her judgement. Please describe her as the Lady of Ithilien.

Sam being the one that the children go to after Bilbo has left, to listen to the old stories, and get pig-a-back rides from, in "romps on the lawns and hayfields of the Shire."

At Bilbo's famous Birthday Party, Pippin and his friends are fascinated by Gandalf's voluminous, billowing robes, and think it great fun to run up, tug on the wizard's robes, and dash away -- heedless of any possible consequences.

In Ithilien, Faramir tells Frodo that, years ago, Mithrandir did "many wonderful things" among his people. To keep Frodo's mind off his troubles, Faramir shares with him a story about what he remembers of Gandalf's wizardry.

Since the Gondorians have never tended a living White Tree, King Elessar asks Sam to give some lessons in tree tending.

Aragorn is the first person to sit on the throne of Gondor in nearly a thousand years -- what are his thoughts and feelings when he first does so?

On the way home, after the Quest, Merry tries to explain to his friends his deep feelings for Theoden and why he is so proud to be a Knight of Rohan.

Growing up in Rohan, Eowyn never learned to swim -- something that Faramir feels he needs to remedy (OR) Sam and Eowyn discover that they have something in common -- no interest whatever in learning how to swim.

After a bit of mischief, Faramir Took wonders if his father's legendary Elven cloak will hide him from sight.

Ulmo, Lord of waters, sends the news throughout all of Middle-earth's streams and rivers that the Ring-bearer has sailed West -- and the news soon reaches Goldberry, the River-daughter.
