While in Valinor, Sauron (then Maimaite) spent much of his time in Aule's forge, where Maedhros would have at least passed through every now and then, probably more. Then Sauron turned evil and joined Morgoth, going with him to Angband.
Where Maedhros ended up. What would have been the reaction on both parts at seeing each other there? Before being hung on Thangorodrim, could Maedhros have had a conversation with Sauron, or even have been put in Sauron's charge? Could Maedhros have given Maimaite his evil name, Sauron Umea?
