Plague on Both Your Houses, A
Challenge Details
We know, according to the timeline in the appendix of Lord of the Rings, that Gondor was wiped out by a plague that took the lives of King Telemnar and his children the same year that the White Tree died in Minas Anor.
Obviously, living in a densely populated city like Gondor, sickness is rampart and medicine is still herbal-based. Write a story about humans in Middle Earth and the endless fight with disease they inevitiably endured (those lucky ever-healthy elves!)
Some ideas to get you started:
-The Great Plague itself (as listed in the timeline of LOTR's appendices)
-The first human living amoung elves in Rivendell and dealing with illness there (I'd assume the first human to live there full-time would have been an Isildur's heir...)
-Sickness on the battle-front (any of the wars of M.E...could spawn a story about Elves healing Humans in either of the alliance wars)
-Faramir/Eowyn, Aragorn/Arwen, Denethor/Findulas caring for one of their sick children
